Ateliers ARKAL was approached by a British contractor to take part in the refurbishment of the womenswear lingerie department at Selfridges, the iconic London department store. The partnership grew out of an existing relationship, built across previous projects.
Our scope covered the design and manufacture of display furniture combining metal structures with walnut veneer, reception counters and fitting room elements. The pairing of richly grained walnut and brass with a patina finish gives the space a warmth and refinement that is entirely in keeping with the Selfridges aesthetic.
This international project demanded considerable organisational and communication capabilities. Wherever our clients are based, we adapt to meet their expectations.
With this project, we developed a workflow built on regular exchanges with our British counterparts. Being able to communicate in English was a genuine asset, allowing everyone involved to express themselves clearly and be fully understood.
We produced several samples to finalise the right tones and finishes, followed by a first-off-the-line piece that served as the quality benchmark for the remainder of the project. Prototyping was essential to align all stakeholders, ensuring every detail met the project’s standards.

Every element was fully manufactured in our workshop in La Sarthe, then shipped by road to London – finished, protected and labelled, ready for installation by the local teams.
This project is a testament to Ateliers ARKAL’s ability to deliver exceptional work across borders, underpinned by enduring relationships and logistics expertise.
