Ateliers ARKAL was commissioned to redesign one floor of a US multinational’s French headquarters as part of a wider refurbishment. Working from the architect’s brief, we crafted custom meeting-room furniture and screen cladding, wall finishes for circulation areas, and a fully fitted amphitheatre within this 24,000 m² project.
The challenge was twofold: to design bespoke furnishings that would sit seamlessly within a coherent overall vision, while meeting the specific technical requirements of each individual space. Particular care was taken in the selection of materials and finishes to ensure a consistent visual language throughout.
Where technical expertise meets design
One of the centrepieces of this office fit-out project is a multifunctional meeting room unit. It incorporates an electronics rack and storage area, capped with a glass tabletop and shelf, with LED lighting set into the rounded edges and all finished in a copper-effect metallic overlay.
Ventilation presented a particular technical challenge: ensuring effective airflow without compromising the aesthetics of the piece. Our response was a system of vertical timber slats mounted over a perforated fabric backing, providing a discreet and elegant ventilation solution. The variety of materials required careful adjustment along the way, as not all of them lent themselves to the curved profiles called for in the brief. We developed a combination of veneer and solid timber, alongside a bespoke finish to tie the whole together.
Our design office translated the broad architectural intent into practical technical solutions. The architect had initially envisaged sheet metal for the cladding, but this proved too thin to work with and unable to meet the technical demands of the piece – rounded corners, LED integration, and so forth. We put forward an alternative in timber with a metallic patina finish, which was more robust and every bit as refined. We then produced a prototype to validate this concept, ensuring that the creative vision and technical feasibility were fully aligned.
A seamless aesthetic for a landmark commission
Every aspect of our work was guided by a coherent vision for the floor as a whole. Curves and materials flow continuously through the meeting rooms, circulation areas and amphitheatre, binding the spaces together. This consistency shapes the identity of the place and affirms the company’s brand within its new home.
Refined finishes and close attention to technical detail create a modern, functional working environment throughout. This project is a testament to our ability to deliver on commissions of the highest calibre while preserving the distinct character of every individual area.
